Alternate Dual Boot Method... (i have never tryed this )
C/P Intro: This is an alternate method of dual booting Windows and the CW-LMC software. It's a little more involved, but it allows you to use one hard drive to dual boot, instead of 2. (I have a 120GB Sata drive) The downside: You'll have to restore your CW-LMC afterwards. Why? you ask?...well, when you install a HD from within the LMC software, it migrates some of the system files to the HD. And if you format that drive (Which you will be doing) it doesn't boot anymore. SO BACK UP, THERE IS AN OPTION FOR THAT!!!!! Go ahead, reboot without the drive connected, see what happens. Process: 0: Backup your settings you lazy putz... 1: Find a Live Linux CD that you like, put it in the drive, reboot...tap F11 to get boot options (when you see the Captive Works screen) 2: Launch your favorite partition editor (I used qtparted) 3: Create 3 partitions... A: One swap (original was around 420MB?, I made mine 1 gig for fun) B: One EXT3 for recording, etc. (Make this big enough, but leave however many gigs you want for Windows)...Mine is 85 Gigs. C: One NTFS or FAT32...(Remainder of the drive) Mine is 25 Gigs. 4: Apply 5: Reboot 6: Restore LMC (When you do this, choose option 2, choosing option 1 will undo the drive when trying to install it).... 7: Ensure your box is setup to the way you like it. It functioning as an FTA box is it's priority...make sure it works as a FTA box first. 8: Shut the box off, and simply unplug your CF card. Not all the way, just enough so it's not connected... 9: Power on, put Windows CD in, Tap F11 to get boot options (again)... 10: Install Windows accordingly...you know, drivers, crap, etc... 11: Shutdown 12: Plug in CF card 13: Power on....make sure it still boots into CW-LMC.... 14: Congrats. You're done. This process doesn't require you to install a boot loader. You don't mess with the Bios boot order, it's fairly simple if you ask me. If you want to boot into Windows, reboot, hit F11 (I hit it a few times) when you see the Captive Works screen. If you see "Initializing Kernel"...you're too late....pick your HD that you installed Windows on, and voila...you're running Windows. |
