Suggestions to help you winterize your outdoor equipment.

Things to do before the snow and ice flys >>>

1. Check all connections to be sure they are water tight, this can be done with electrical tape or self sealing coax seal, a small dab of dielectric grease inside the connectors will help keep the water out and prevent corrosion.

2. Check the coax, if it’s been outside for a while there could be cracking of the PVC jacket, this will let water in and cause problems, also any staples and coax mounting brackets should be checked to see that they are not loose or have pierced the PVC jacket, this will let water in.

3. All switches should be inside a water tight box or other enclosure, or be a weather proof type; all connections should be checked, tightened and re-sealed or sealed.

4. Grounding blocks should be checked all connections water proofed and ground connections cleaned and re-tightened.

5. All mounting bolts, hardware and screws should be checked and tightened, any mounting hardware screws going into the roof or eaves should be checked to make sure they are sealed to prevent water from getting inside the house.

6. All coax should be stapled or tied down to keep it from flopping around in the wind; it should be kept off the ground and out of any bushes or trees.

7. Preventing snow build up, there are many ways to do this and everyone has there special way to do it, if it works for you then Great keep it doing it.

One of the better ways is to buy a heated dish and LNB, this will keep the snow and ice off the dish and keep you off the roof during that blizzard, another way is water pipe heating rope, it has a thermostat and will come on if it gets too cold.

8. Wind, if you’re in an area with very high winds, The dish can be stabilized by adding extra support to the mount or to the dish, This can be done by using conduit and mounting brackets found at most electrical supply stores.

Tips to make your winter FTA Viewing less problematic.

A) Check your connections (With your receiver turned off and unplugged), Take a bottle of Vaseline or grease with you and put a little drop in the connector to help repel the water from the thaws and freezes.

B) Make Drip loops Make a small loop in the cable just before the connectors to make sure that the water drips off before it enters your connection or switch/LNB/motor.

C) PAM iT ! a little trick for built up snow is to use some cooking spray on your dish to help prevent the snow from sticking to it. DON'T DO YOUR LNB! that could lead to troubles.

D) Cap off what your not using IF you have extra connections on your switches or LNB's get terminators to keep water and weather out of them.

Its so much easier to do before the snow falls, rather then trying to climb through snow and ice. Or risk falling off the roof when there is ice and snow.
