Default DVD Burner/Writer

I downloaded a couple of the SpongeBob animated movies (DVDrip) for my little girl.
(thanks for those movies)

I found a program (AVS Video Converter6) that converts a DVDrip to a Mpeg2 format so I can play it on the DVD/VCR Player attached to the TV.

I was able to convert the DVD-rip from AVI to MPEG2 but when I try to send the converted file to a DVD-disc in the CD-RW/DVD-Rom drive, it just makes noise like it wants to work but the file won't send to the disc.
I tried both DVD-R and DVD+R discs....both failed to work.
My guess is the CD Rom drive is not up to date or fast enough for todays technology.

All the downloaded/converted DVD-rips will play on my PC. But I want to use the TV for these movies.

Soooooo I went looking for an External DVD Writer. I found dozens of them!
I've replaced internal CD drives before but I think Im doing the external route this time.

Before I spend the money...What I need to know is: Can I send/burn the converted MPEG file to DVD disc using the External DVD Writer?

Any advice and/or info is much appreciated.....thanks

I have used windows media player in vista with some success when burning this type of media for my dvd player, or I use a program recommended here called convertxtodvd but I can't seem to find it right now, sorry about that. Or you may find it on Cyberwarez.

Sound like he is trying to us a cd player or burner to copy the mpeg2 to a DVD Media. This won't work if this is the case. You have to have a dvd Burner to burn to a DVD. Also window media player in Window XP or earlier will not burn a dvd. Since you done it in Vista, they may have corrected this problem, which is long over Due.

I think Prohc has it figured out.

I need a DVD Burner.
The Converter Programs I used just converts the downloaded DVDrip from an AVI to MPEG. (Like Nero)
Once I get the file converted to a usable MPEG I can't get it from there to a DVD disk. My Computer can't perform that function.
The blank DVD disk just makes noise in the CD/DVD drive. Nothing happens.

I run WinXP....It's a few years old but it has enough of the requirments, it just needs a better CD/DVD drive.....I think.

I need to buy a DVD Writer/Burner.

Thanks for the advice...much appreciated.
I'll let ya know how I make out.
