1. Purchase a XBOX MN-740 Wireless Gaming Adapter.
2. Since the MN-740 is only designed to be configured to work with Microsoft’s XBOX, you must update the firmware to the same firmware that the D-Link DGL 3420 uses. hence, one that will work with any Ethernet enabled FTA STB. In addition, the DGL-3420 firmware is compatible with WPA-TKIP encryption, and best of all, it allows users to configure it via the web interface (Internet Explorer 192.168.0.30). Shame on Microsoft for only allowing their adapter to be configured via the XBOX. 3. For files and directions please visit: (xttp://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,13360873). Note that, the link to the MSBNDownload.exe may be dead; however, a simple search will find the download link, or look further into the forum. (change x to h for link to work). 4. If your firmware is 1.0.2.26, then in this case the modified file has to be re-named to: MN740_01.00.02.0027_RUNTIME.bin (one subversion higher then what you are running) after renaming the file, you need to edit: Component Releases.xml FIND CODE: SKU_MN-740_RUNTIME_FW critical Update="0" file name="MN_740_RUNTIME" version="1.0.2.22" feature List="www.MS.com" description="Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) run time firmware" CHANGE CODE TO THE FOLLOWING: SKU_MN-740_RUNTIME_FW critical Update="0" file name="MN_740_RUNTIME" version="1.0.2.27" feature List="www.MS.com" description="Xbox Wireless Adapter (MN-740) run time firmware" Package Catalog.xml FIND CODE: TARGET_SKU_MN_740_RUNTIME_FW file name="MN740_01.00.02.0022_RUNTIME.bin" CHANGE CODE TO THE FOLLOWING: TARGET_SKU_MN_740_RUNTIME_FW file name="MN740_01.00.02.0027_RUNTIME.bin" That will will update the firmware to 1.0.2.26. 5. Go to your computer that is directly connected to the router, or if not directly connected to the router, use the computer that was used to configure your router's configuration. Plug the CAT5 cable into your computer's Ethernet LAN and the power cord into the outlet and adapter. Once here, you will need to change your computer's LAN IP address so you can access and configure the new DGL 3420's interface by going to network connections. Right Click LAN > Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 (VISTA) or TCP/IP (XP) > Properties Click dial button to use the following IP Address: IP Address: 192.168.0.2 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.x.x your default gateway (from router's configuration page) DNS 1: use your default gateway (i.e. 192.168.1.1) DNS 2. 4.2.2.2. 6. Go to Internet Explorer and type 192.168.0.30 in the address bar at the top. User: admin ; password: (nothing/blank). 7. Use the D-Link DGL-3420's product manual to configure. 8. Note, make sure you change the LAN (basic setting) to 192.168.x.30 (x usually = 1) and set your default gateway. 192.168.x.30 will be used to access the web interface in the future. 9. Go back to your network connections and click the dial button to obtain IP automatically (DHCP). 10. Plug your new DGL-3420 into your FTA BOX and that's it.
