It appears the UFC is ready to return to the Montreal in May of 2010.
According to The Canadian Press, light heavyweight champion Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida will take on Mauricio "Shogun" Rua in a rematch of the main event of UFC 104.
Machida (16-0) escaped their first meeting with a victory, but the result was questioned by many, including the majority of the crowd in attendance, who booed the judge's unanimous decision in favour of the 31-year old champion. Many UFC fighters sitting ringside also voiced their belief that Shogun (18-4) had done enough to earn the decision and the light heavyweight title.
Due to the controversial ending and the evenly-matched nature of the bout, both fighters have agreed to enter the octagon against each other once again.
UFC President Dana White was also among those unhappy with the result of their first fight.
"I think Lyoto Machida is a freak of nature," White told the Canadian Press immediately after the UFC 104 main event. "What makes him so great is he can do things other people can't do . . . I've been saying this was a fight between two of the best technical strikers in the business and he couldn't pull that off against Shogun.
"I'm pretty confident the rematch will be a different fight for both guys. Nobody wants to be sitting here, banged up, beat up, bruised up -- lose and win a fight the way they did. It doesn't feel good for anybody."
Montreal has already played host to UFC 83 and UFC 97, in April 2008 and April 2009, respectively.:)
